GGCO2019 Contender Yapi Mediterranean Subs and Sandwiches recently opened on Hampton Ave. and Loughborough Ave. Wedged between Princeton Heights and the St. Louis Hills neighborhoods, the family-run restaurant has already made a splash with their Bosnian and Mediterranean-inspired dishes. Especially their cevapi, a traditional Bosnian ground beef sausage dish served with sliced raw onions, sour cream and flatbread, and their "Yapi Burger,"; A huge patty of organic, grass-fed beef piled onto a fluffy roll with lettuce, tomato and thick-sliced onion.
They are entering into the competition this year with a very unique grilled-cheese sandwich: The Mediterranean. It starts with crispy thin slices of fresh baked bread from Europa Market, seared in lamb and beef tallow butter, filled with melty cheeses -- shredded provolone, mozzarella, and a sprinkle of feta -- topped with romaine tomato and house made Italian dressing.
You will be able to sample this and 7 other sandwiches with your pass to the GGCO. You will also get a free Schlafly beer and a cup of tomato soup to pair your sandwich with from Pickleman's Deli! Get your tickets ASAP, because they are limited and usually sell out by the day of the festival: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/56753544379
